Heather Bartlett

Heather Bartlett (she/her) is a poet, writer, and professor. She is the author of the poetry collection, Another Word for Hunger (Sundress Publications 2023). Her poetry and prose can be found in print and online in journals such as the Los Angeles Review, Ninth Letter, RHINO Poetry, and others. She holds an MFA in poetry from Hunter College and is an Assistant Professor of English and Writing at SUNY Cortland.

Riss Stone
Riss Stone (she/her) is a poet and fiction writer. As an assistant editor of Hoxie Gorge Review, she is committed to uplifting inspiring voices that showcase literary diversity. She has a keen interest in experimental fiction and poetry and always has a journal on hand to put memorable moments to paper. She is currently working on a collection of poetry and short prose.
James Yomtob
James Yomtob is a current student who lives and breathes all things writing. He has a particular interest in poetry, but has an appreciation for sound and rhythm in all forms of writing. He writes and reads works with a keen eye for concrete surprising detail delivered in an eloquent way.
Fiction
Julie Bowker
Julie Bowker (she/her) is a writer and aspiring fiction author who specializes in fantasy and sci-fi. She has a passion for sharing stories that are fantastical and bizarre, and is honing her skills as a Professional Writing major at SUNY Cortland. She is currently engaged with writing short stories and acting as an assistant editor to the literary magazine Hoxie Gorge Review.
Jason Peisahovitch
Jason studied English at Northern Arizona University. The skills from this major facilitated his success as a serial entrepreneur where he created several companies in diverse industries—international trade, tracking fugitives, building restaurants and furniture design. In 2024, he returned to academia in SUNY Cortland’s professional writing program to resume his longtime ambition of becoming a writer. He is currently an assistant editor at Hoxie Gorge Review and working on a new novel.
Katie Wilhite
Katie Wilhite (she/her) is an aspiring author, editor, and poet. With a preference for romance, fantasy, sci-fi, and thriller, she has fostered a love of literature of all kinds. She is a professional writing major at SUNY Cortland and continues to work on a variety of pieces, including short stories and poems. She has a romance novel in the works. As an editor for Hoxie Gorge Review, she appreciates originality in works that draw her in and leave a lasting effect.
Nonfiction
Sophie Amering
Sophie Amering is a passionate writer, specializing in professional and technical writing. She is also an avid traveler and has been inspired to write travel journals and poems about her unforgettable experiences around the globe. Additionally, Sophie has recently developed a liking towards digital media and is currently a social media manager for several companies and organizations. She strives to gain experience in multiple areas of the writing world and is open to new opportunities as she begins to develop her career.
Kayla Guillen
Kayla Guillen found a love for writing over the last 10 years, but it was more of a hobby. After pursuing a professional writing degree and the opportunities for hands-on experiences, she has developed skills from journalism to media platform development and editing. Being a part of the Hoxie Gorge Review editing team has allowed her to endeavor into a variety of genres, opening her skill set to target multiple forms of writing beyond her love for non-fiction.
