Hoxie Gorge Review was born out of a desire to carve out a place in the literary conversation, to create a platform for outstanding literature where emerging writers can speak right alongside established writers. Hoxie Gorge was created to celebrate voices.
In the process of crafting this issue, we read hundreds and hundreds of submissions. We were struck, of course, by the sheer volume of work we received in response to our call. We were bowled over with gratitude for the support offered to us in the form of submissions. Of voices. This is an important time in literature, and the writers reaching out to us all had something significant to say. We left editorial meetings lifted and energized by all of the poetry, stories, and essays we received.
This inaugural issue of Hoxie Gorge Review came together over months of reading and re-reading, over many deep dives into the weird and the vulnerable and the intensely human, over many dinners and many, many cups of coffee. The voices in this issue surprised us. They left us breathless. They left us spinning. These are voices worth hearing. We are so thrilled to share them with you.
Thank you for beginning this journey with us. We can’t wait for what comes next.
Sincerely,
The Editors
